Tourism is a key ingredient in the economic life of the West of Ireland and indeed the island as a whole. For generations we have enjoyed significant tourism from the United States of America due in no small way to the millions of US citizens with Irish ancestry.
As a country we nurtured this product very effectively providing our visitors with a unique style of tradition and hospitality which guarantees goodwill and repeat visits. Tourism has the potential to play a pivotal role in helping our country get back working again.
It is clear that we need to continue to invest in our tourism infrastructure, offer a quality value for money product and run targated marketing campaigns which will attract visitors from the new emerging world markets.
